Local Area - Forest Row
The lovely village takes its name from its close proximity to the Royal Ashdown Forest. Forest Row has a population of about 5,500 people, although it has grown significantly a village atmosphere has been maintained. There is a wide range of shops and restaurants, an interesting mixture of old and new architecture and a diverse population.
The Village Hall is in the centre of the village and Forest Row is home to a large number of local craft fairs, art exhibitions classes and much more. There are lots of clubs and there is always something going on.
Many leisure activities can be found in the area: Weir Wood Reservoir which is great for sailing, fishing and bird watching, the Royal Ashdown Golf Course, the Ashdown Forest are amongst the main activities available nearby.
The nearest big town is East Grinstead and the planned extension of the famous Bluebell Railway to East Grinstead is due for completion in 2011, with the platform there opening in July 2010.
Forest Row is well worth a visit as a village and a base for the Ashdown Forest, the Bluebell Railway and other local attractions. The Brambletye Hotel offers free parking in the village centre giving you added flexibility.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featured the Brambletye Inn in the novel `The Adventures of Black Peter,’ the fictional characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson stayed at the hotel while making investigations; you can enjoy some literary history during your stay with us.
